Cookie Policy

Our website uses only the cookies it needs to work. Content from other websites that may set cookies of its own is shown only if you allow it. This page lists everything, and explains how to change your mind.

1. Your choices

Without JavaScript we use essential cookies only, and content from other websites isn’t shown.

Change cookie preferences

You can change your choice at any time, here or from “Cookie preferences” at the bottom of every page. We remember it for about six months, then ask again. We’ll also ask again if we start using something new that needs your permission.

2. What cookies are

Cookies are small files that a website stores in your browser, so it can remember something between pages or visits. Websites can also keep information in your browser in other ways, such as “local storage” and “session storage”. The law treats these in the same way as cookies, so we list them here too.

Some are strictly necessary: the website can’t do what you’ve asked without them, so they don’t need your permission. Anything else needs your permission first.

3. Cookies we always use

These are strictly necessary. They’re set by our own website, they don’t track you, and they’re never used for advertising.

Name Type What it does How long it lasts Who gets it
slcare_consent Cookie Remembers your cookie choices, so we don’t ask you on every page. About six months Everyone who makes a choice
slcare_applied Cookie After you send a job application, lets you answer the optional equal opportunities questions. It holds your application reference and a one-time code, and only works on the application pages. Up to 4 hours People applying for a job
slcare-apply-draft Session storage Keeps your answers to the job application form in this browser tab while you fill it in, so you can move between its steps. Until you send the form or close the tab People applying for a job
slcare-apply-draft-step Session storage Remembers which step of the job application form you were on, with your answers above. Until you send the form or close the tab People applying for a job
slcare_admin Cookie Keeps a member of staff signed in to the website’s admin area. It only works on the admin pages. 12 hours after it was last used Our staff
slcare-admin-sidebar Local storage Remembers whether a member of staff has folded away the admin area’s menu. Until it’s cleared Our staff

4. Content from other websites

Maps and ratings from other websites

Some of our pages show content from other organisations’ websites. When it loads, they can see your device’s internet address and may set cookies of their own, so we only show it if you allow it. Until you allow it, you’ll see a placeholder instead, with a link to see the same thing on the other website.

Content Provided by What it’s for What it may store or collect
Google Maps Our homes’ pages Google Privacy information from Google (opens in a new tab) Shows where each of our homes is on a map. Google may set cookies and collect information about your device and how you use the map.
Care Inspectorate Wales ratings Our homes’ pages Care Inspectorate Wales Privacy information from Care Inspectorate Wales (opens in a new tab) Shows each home’s latest ratings from Care Inspectorate Wales, our regulator. The ratings are loaded from Care Inspectorate Wales’ website, which may set cookies or collect information about your device.

These organisations decide for themselves what their cookies do and how long they last, so we can’t list them exactly; their privacy information explains. If you turn this content off, we stop showing it straight away, but any cookies it has already set stay in your browser until they expire or you delete them (see Managing cookies in your browser).

5. What we don’t use

  • No analytics or statistics tools: we only count how many times each blog post is read, on our own server, without recording who read it.
  • No advertising, retargeting or social media tracking.
  • No embedded social media posts. Our blog’s share buttons and our social media links are plain links, which share nothing until you use them.
  • No fonts or other files from other websites: everything comes from our own website, apart from the content above once you allow it.

If we ever start using anything like this, we’ll ask for your permission first and update this page.

6. Global Privacy Control

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, asking websites not to share your information, and you haven’t made a choice on our website, we treat it as if you’d chosen “Reject all”: we don’t show the cookie banner and we use essential cookies only. You can still allow content from other websites yourself, from a placeholder or in cookie preferences, and a choice you make here applies from then on.

7. Managing cookies in your browser

Every browser lets you see and delete the cookies it holds, and block cookies from some or all websites; look for “Cookies” or “Privacy” in its settings or help pages. Deleting our cookies just means we’ll ask for your choices again. Blocking all cookies stops some things working, such as finishing the equal opportunities questions after a job application.

8. Changes to this policy

We’ll update this page whenever what our website stores changes, and change the date at the top. If we add anything that needs your permission, we’ll ask you again.

9. Questions

Our privacy policy explains how we use personal information more generally, and your rights. If you have a question about cookies, please contact us:
